We are constantly listening to feedback and one of the most requested features in SiteApps was the capability of having control over priority of the deployed apps.  We just added a new feature called Deployment Groups.  Deployment Groups allows you to group your deployed apps and define the order in which apps are executed and if some apps should not be executed in case others are.

The Changes

In your dashboard you will now notice the link to manage your Deployment Groups.  Here you will be able to create as many deployment groups as you wish and you will also allow to prioritize these groups.  The lower the priority, the earlier these apps will be executed.

Also, when you deploy an app, you will now be able to define to which Deployment Group this app belongs to.

SiteApps as a Tag Management System

This feature further enhances websites wanting to use SiteApps as a tag management system.  You now have more extensive control over business rules and how you will deploy your apps.

How to use Deployment Groups

Below we will show some examples of how you can leverage SiteApps using Deployment Groups.

  • Prioritizing Site Customizations to Segmented Users

Let's say you have two deploys on your home page using Siteapps: (1) one for a certain country, and (2) the other based on a certain organic keyword (using Google Analytics integration).  You can now add each of these deploys to a Deployment Group and only execute one of them in case the other was not run.

  • Running Apps or Custom Codes that require variables created by another app

You may have an app or custom code that requires a variable actually created by another app.  Let's say you use BTBuckets segmentation for a specific app - now you can actually run the BTBuckets code before this app.

  • Advanced control of apps using frequency rules

With this feature you can start applying very personalized experiences to your website.  You can start controlling what apps will be deployed in what order to your users.
